Upper Cottages, Ovingdean

Design and build of a garden room-cabin at the end of the garden.

The client required a separate living space, tucked into the existing garden. We built a semi submerged room with bifold doors onto an outside kitchen area.

  • green roof with meditation space

  • Lime plastered Hempcrete walls

  • Thermal mass limecrete breathing floor

  • Wood burner and electric underfloor heating

What is remarkable is that although a “cabin”, this structure is built to the highest spec, with quality materials. The result is a truly liveable unique tiny home. The thick walls, roof and floor retain the heat well, whilst the limecrete thermal mass floor passively stores heat from the south glazing, augmented by a simple backup electric underfloor heating system.
